Leicester is also home to two prominent seats of learning - Leicester and De Montfort University - and has a castle, cathedral, a number of museums and beautiful parks, superb shopping outlets, and one of the largest covered markets in Europe, as well as the UK's National Space Centre.

Leicester is a multi-cultural city with one of the most successful records of cultural and racial integration in Britain. In 1996 it won the European Sustainable city award as the UK's first Environment city.
